    sacai x Alexander Girard

    19Aug.2020

Sacai is pleased to announce the release of the collaboration with American artist, Alexander Girard, renowned for working on textile, interior and furniture design, as part of the sacai 2020 Autumn & Winter collection. The items will be available starting 22nd August in Japan and globally from the end of August.
Girard's signature, graphic typography artwork is arranged with the sacai logo added and comes in colorways made exclusively for sacai. The artwork is printed on multiple kinds of fabric such as satin or chiffon. Inspired by the regimented and linear nature of Girard's typographic work, sacai took fabric that is cut into squares, to construct fluid and curvilinear shapes that are feminine and elegant by applying sacai's unique sartorial techniques.
Women's styles include various items such as dress, skirt, pullover, and boots. There are men's items such as jacket or shirt that feature the same prints as women's, as well as T-shirt and hoodie in unisex size.

    About Alexander Girard
Born in 1907 in New York City, Alexander Girard was one of the leading figures of postwar American design. Trained as an architect but proficient in nearly all design disciplines, the primary focus of his wide-ranging oeuvre was textile design. Girard created numerous fabrics for the Herman Miller Company, favoring abstract forms and geometric patterns in a wide variety of color compositions. Many of his upholstery fabrics remain as timely and vital as ever and are still manufactured today.
Having originally studied architecture, Girard made a name for himself over his long career in the fields of furniture, exhibition, interior and graphic design. Moreover, he was one of the world's most important collectors of folk art. His passion for what he called "toys" led him around the globe, amassing a collection of roughly 106,000 pieces which he would eventually donate to The International Museum of Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Working across a multitude of disciplines throughout his career, Girard left behind a body of work that is staggering both in volume and creativity. Girard Studio was founded by the Girard family to preserve and promote the design legacy and archive of Alexander Girard. It is our mission to share his work with the world.
